Port Progreso, now with new services and equipment, carries on a great training work for cargo produced in the Yucatan Peninsula for exporting to the United States, Europe and Asia, as well as new customers for taking care of the imports of the Southeast of the country, and for this reason has joined efforts with the Government of the State of Yucatan and Bancomext.

On Thursday, August 3rd, from the hours of 9:00 to 12:30, a Logistics Seminar: “Progreso, Gateway To Your Exports” was held.
With the participation of 50 producer and trading companies of Yucatan, the seminar developed the following subjects:

1. Welcome by SEDEINCO, by Assistant Secretary Mr. Jorge Isaac.
2. Presentation of Pymexporta Services, by Director Mrs. Valentina Uribe.
3. The Customs Agent And The Exports, by the President of the Customs Agents Associations, Mr. Bernardo Mier y Teran.
4. Support services offered by the Containers Terminal of Yucatan CTY, by the General Director Captain Pedro Ferreras and Commercial Director Mr. Enrique de la Camara.
5. Port Progreso Offers New Services, by the Integral Port Management’s Promotion and Social Communication Undersecretary, Miss Sonia Tames.
6. Full Service Bridge, by Peninsular Line Manager, Mr. Alejandro de Pedro.

The assisting sectors stated the production volumes that the state currently has, as well as the final destination for their export, their merchandising necessities and the products they handle:

Thas assistants were advised on logistic issues for exporting their products through the port of Progreso, which currently has a productivity rate of 45 boxes per ship/hour in operation (BSHO), against 21 BSHO of the efficiency it had in 2004, thanks to the equipment of the containers terminal CTY, through, mainly its:
• 2 Panamax Bridge Cranes.
• 1 Traveling Derrick.
• 4 Reach Stackers.
• 1 Top Loader.


The new port facilities have:
• A total area of 64 hectares of land and 1,038 of water.
• 7.5 km of total length.
• 10 docking positions. Docking length:2,407 m.
• The current official drought is 32 ft (9.75 m).
• Receives ships with a capacity of up to 36,000 tons of product.

New services of interest for the merchants and assistant producers were disclosed:

• New shipping companies:
• General charter cargo service with destination to the Caribbean Islands: BCM Caribe.
• Reefer service to Holland: Seatrade Reefer Chartering NV.
• In December, we will begin a ferry service Progreso-Tampa, Fl: The Shuttle.
• In 2007, will begin the operations of the fluids plant.
• Refrigerated warehouse facilities.
• The new maritime customs facilities.
• New docking positions, pier 7 for general cargo.
• The works that will provide of 34 feet of additional drought to the port.
