During the present Administration, the Port of Progreso has made works and developed new businesses for the benefit of the Port Community, current and potential customers, caring for the necessities of the merchandise and passengers movement market.

We outline 7 main works with their characteristics and benefits:

Containers Terminal
• 400 thousand containers operated (2001-2006).
• Current operation capacity 300 thousand TEU’s per year.
• Area of 11.5 hectares.
• Docks 5 and 6 with a docking length of 460 m.
• Official draught: 23 and 32 feet.
• Development of different services to support the international trade of the Small and Medium Companies (PYMES, for the Spanish acronym).
• Better business opportunities for the area.
• Enlarging of the national and international connections (savings in costs and real time of the merchandise transportation)
• Increase of the merchandise flow and the arrival of ships.
• Private investment of $160 million pesos.

Cruises and Ferries Terminal
• 1 million passengers received (2001-2006).
• Jetty pier with 2 berth positions, each with 330 meters of length.
• Ferry dock with 180 meters of length.
• Official draught: 30 feet.
• 5.5 hectares patio.
• Commercial plaza, services, 20 business premises, duty free, maneuvering patio, parking area.

Building of Pier 7
• 250 meters for docking.
• Third pier for general cargo.
• Tenth docking position in the Port.
• Facilities for increasing the arrival of the ships.
• Public investment of $ 54 million pesos.

Draught (The work will end in December 2006).
• More draught to the navigation channel and to the basins.
• Official draught of 34 feet.
• 100 thousand cubic meters of rocky material to be draught.
• Strengthen the security in the port maneuverings.
• Responds to the necessites of the cargo shipping companies market, tourism cruises and ferries.
• Incentive to the stop over economies.
• $ 100 million pesos of joint investment by the State and Federal Governments.

Maritime Customs
• Top of the line facilities.
• 3 hectares of platform.
• Facilitates the port and its clients the procedures of foreign commerce merchandise and cruise ships passengers.
• Customs revision service.

• 5 control stalls with closed circuit television.
• Public investment of $ 21.1 million pesos.

Maritime Traffic Control Center
• International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) certification.
• Safe operation of the port and surrounding areas.
• Modern computer equipment, radar, automatic identification system, meteorology and hydrology remote station, visual monitoring and recording equipment.
• Minimizes the risk of accidents and contamination of the marine environment.
