On August 25th, the Port of Progreso retakes the direct connection service with Europe, that it had 20 years ago.

At 8:00 a.m. docked in Progreso the Northern Explorer, ship owned by the Seatrade Reefer Chartering NV shipping company, with a 2,400 pallet capacity, transporting in this first trip 2 thousand tons of red grapefruit with destination to the Port of Flushing in Holland on August 26th, at 17:00 hours; its trip will take 12 days.

The exportable offer of Yucatan greatly fosters the service of this new shipping line, that anchor cargo is basicly citrics in its first travels, transporting the season’s local fruit, and in its last trip will also be exporting sea’s products such as octopus.

The State of Yucatan is the number one producer of red grapefruit and octopus, cargo that this year recuperates its direct departure from Progreso.

In 5 shipments, 10 thousand ton of citrics will be transported, mainly red grapefruit and in smaller amounts persian lemons and oranges, the frequency of the shipments will be every 12 days, the distribution center will be in Holland.

The Refrigerated Storage service of the Port, managed by Interalta since 2004, fosters this exchange of citrics harvested in Oxkuztcab, Yucatan, as well as different fruits and vegetables harvested in the Southern Cone with, Tekax, Acanceh, Baca and other areas of Yucatan.
