After 3 years of absence from the Port of Progreso, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines returns in a permanent way with three ships, the Rhapsody of the Seas, the Voyager of the Seas and the Grandeur of the Seas.

The inaugural arrival of the Cruise Line was on Friday May 11th, with the Rhapsody of the Seas, which has a capacity for 2,435 passengers and 765 crew members.

Michael Ronan, Vicepresident of Royal Caribbean, accompanied by the Governor of the State, Mr. Patricio Patron Laviada; the Rhapsody’s Captain Michele Claveau; the Director of Ports and Ship Companies Agencies of the TMM Group, Mr. Miguel Casanueva Velasco; Raul Torre, Commercial Manager of the Port of Progreso; Sonia Tames Arenas, Promotion Assistant Manager of the Port of Progreso; the Secretary of Tourism of the State, Jorge Torre Loria; the Mayor of Progreso, Concepcion Almeida; tour operator companies as Aviomar, Explora Caribe Tours, Total Gusto and Tierra Bonita, among other authorities, carried out a plate exchange ceremony for the inaugural arrival aboard the ship.
The ship, which has 25 feet of draught, 78,491 TRB, 915 feet of length and 106 feet of breadth, will arrive at 10:45 hours and will set sail at 20:00 hours, having as Home Port the Port of Galveston.

The Rhapsody of the Seas’ arrival will take place every two weeks, on Fridays.

The turnover for the port’s population with the arrival of these three ships will be of $ 6.7 million US dollars during 2007 and 2008.
