After 4 years preparation for handling this new product, on Friday June 25th, with the arrival of the Albatros ship at the Port of Progreso, began the regular export of mineral material to the United States of America.

The ship transported 32 thousand tones of 3 different kinds of products: gravel, gravelly and base material, which was transported to the General Cargo Terminal to be shipped at dock 7 of public use, with the final destination of the Port of Tampa.

This new cargo in the Port of Progreso created 190 new jobs in the State of Yucatan, thus benefiting its community.

There are regular shipments programmed, every 12 days with 32 thousand tones of product, the destination will be the Port of Tampa, from where the material will be distributed to be used in different building purposes.

The increase of this kind of cargo for the Port of Progreso in 2007 will be of 261 percent, moving from 138,518 tons to 500 thousand tones handled.

With this new export cargo, the Port of Progreso consolidates the diversification of its products: Mineral bulk, containers, perishables, agricultural bulk, hydrocarbons, single cargo, non oily fluids and passenger traffic from tourist cruise ships.
