With an investment of 2 million pesos Mexican currency, Progreso began a new line of business, for the benefit of the meat consumers and distribuitors in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Since last September, we have operating in Progreso a “Phytosanitary Verification and Inspection Spot for Imports”, operated by the Sagarpa; all this, along with the publication in the Official Gazette of September 13th, where the Customs of Progreso was authorized for meat imports.

The P.V.I.S. has 2 platforms in its 100m2 facilities, a refrigeration chamber at 4°C, an inspection area at 10°C and a laboratory at a 14°C temperature, thus fulfilling with the official regulation of maintaining the cool chain.

The potential market for supplying meat to the Mayan Riviera, represents 12 million consumers per year, benefiting directly the tourism sector (hotels and restaurants) of Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

We must outline that coming in by Progreso and un-stuffing in Quintana Roo, can take advantage of paying only the 10 percent VAT that that State has.

The freight reduction in the logistic chain represents, with the opening of Progreso, savings of $800 US dollars per container, including sea and land freights.

The Shipping Companies that are currently offering the service are Linea Peninsular, with 5 frequencies per week from Panama City in Florida, Maersk Line importing cargo via Progreso coming from New Zeland and Caja Logistics.
