A growth of 43.8 percent in cruise ships arrivals and 48.9 percent in passengers.
An economic apportionment of 17.5 million dollars.

The Port of Progreso has positioned in 2007, as the Port with the highest growth rate in the arrival of cruise ships and passengers in the Gulf of Mexico.

In 2007 it had a movement of 115 cruise ships and 239,520 passengers, compared to the 87 cruise ships and 160,842 passengers received in 2006.

This is the result of a tough promotion work of many years, which took shape in 2007, for the benefit and economic apportionment of the people of South East Mexico.

In 2007, the arrival of cruise ships in Progreso registered an economic apportionment of 17.5 million dollars ($17’535,259.2), a growth rate of 49 percent compared to the economic apportionment of 11.8 million dollars (11’775,242.82 dollars) in 2006. These figures are in accordance to the last survey of the FFCA, where each passenger in Progreso spends an average of $53.09 dollars and each crew member, an average of 40.24 per arrival.

Each cruise ship arrival to Progreso represents an economic apportionment of $183,025 dollars for the population, without counting the income related to the rates and port services, using as reference the arrival of a ship with 2,500 passengers and a crew of 1,250.

In Progreso, we continue with an intense promotion work of the Port as a destination for the cruise ships of the most important cruise ships companies. We also do this with companies that operate ships with less draught, for developing the route of the Gulf of Mexico, which leader is CGPMM and the Federal Tourism Secretary.

These achievements are due to the work of both, public and private sectors: API Progreso, its Cruise Ships Terminal, given for management to SSA Mexico, TMM Agencies, The South East Consignee Agency, the tour operators: Aviomar, Explora Caribe Tours, Total Gusto, Tierra Bonita and Sunshine Tours, the tourism transportation company Auto Progreso, the Secretary of Tourism and the Municipality of Progreso. All of them, in their own area of competence make efforts for trying to obtain new achievements in 2008 for the benefit of Yucatán and its population.
